Brazilian Music Workshop - Jazz Bass
Don Wilner
bassist, performs in both the classical and jazz genres. He earned a Doctorate in music at the University of Miami, was the Principle Bassist and a featured soloist with the Palm Beach Pops, and the Assistant Principle Bassist with the Miami City Ballet for many years.
An outstanding accompanist and soloist, besides being one of the most enthusiasts of Brazilian Music in South Florida, he has performed and recorded with the most important Jazz musicians. Named Best Jazz Musician in Miami, by The New Times, Don has received reviews as the one by Doug Ramsey, the well-known music critic for Jazz Times Magazine, who wrote:
"Wilner is an astonishing bass player whether bowing, walking, interacting . . . or covering the instrument from top to bottom in his pizzicato solos. His purity of tone and breadth of techniqu e may come from his classical background. They are matched by a time feeling achieved only by musicians with a bone-deep jazz sensibility."
The master class
During 60 minutes, the virtuoso and experienced double (acoustic) bass player Don Wilner will demonstrate how Brazilian Jazz, which embraces any Brazilian style played with a Jazz taste, can be interpreted by bass players. Different “grooves” for the various styles as well as different techniques, including the use of the bow, will be presented. As a proficient Jazz improviser, Don Wilner, will also focus his clinic on that aspect as well.
